The second edition of the European HPC Summit Week (EHPCSW) took place in the North Campus of the Technical University of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain and was hosted by Barcelona Supercomputing Center. The aim of the conference series "European HPC Summit Week" is to gather all related European HPC stakeholders, including institutions, service providers, users, communities, vendors and consultants, in a single week to foster synergies.
The EHPCSW'17 edition offered a wide variety of workshops covering a range of application areas including renewable energies, oil & gas, biomedicine, big data, mathematics, climate modelling, computing applications, as well as HPC technologies.
The programme included the EXDCI workshop, which started on Monday and gave an overview of EXDCI recent activities showing the HPC vision and recommendations to improve the overall HPC ecosystem. The next three days were dedicated to the main event - PRACEdays17, the fourth edition of the PRACE Scientific and Industrial Conference, under the motto "HPC for Innovation: when Science meets Industry". This main event included several high-level international keynote talks, parallel sessions and a panel discussion. One of the important parallel sessions presented some fascinating results of applying HPC in industry - with special attention given to Spanish industry.
In parallel to PRACEdays17, three additional workshops were organised by HPC Centers of Excellence: (i) CompBioMed: HPC-based computational biomedicine; (ii) HPC for renewable energies: new programming models and strategies for the emerging exascale architectures and (iii) ENES/ESiWACE HPC Workshop. On Wednesday afternoon, EuroLab4HPC also organised its workshop "The Future of High-Performance Computing" in parallel to the workshop "Mathematics for Exascale and Digital Science". On Thursday afternoon, ETP4HPC organised a round-table entitled "Exploiting the Potential of European HPC Stakeholders in Extreme-Scale Demonstrators" in parallel to the EUDAT workshop: "Coupling HPC and Data Resources and services together".
The full programme is available online at https://exdci.eu/events/european-hpc-summit-week-2017. More than 400 people participated at EHPCSW'17.
The next edition of the European HPC Summit Week will take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia from May 28 to June 1, 2018.
