PRACE Winter School 2014

Topic: Supercomputing and HPC

The PRACE Winter School is targeted at two separate user groups. The first is a half day mini-workshop, taking place on Monday morning February 10, 2014 from 8:30-13:00 entitled "The Future of HPC: Israeli Innovation", where the organizers will showcase Israeli companies and researchers who are developing the future HPC technologies for the next 5 years. The other part, starting Monday afternoon, will be 3 days of an introductory workshop on how to use PRACE resources. This will be a hands-on workshop, limited to 60 people.

PDP 2014 - 22nd Euromicro International Conference on Parallel, Distributed and Network-Based Processing

Parallel, Distributed, and Network-Based Processing has undergone impressive change over recent years. New architectures and applications have rapidly become the central focus of the discipline. These changes are often a result of cross-fertilisation of parallel and distributed technologies with other rapidly evolving technologies. It is of paramount importance to review and assess these new developments in comparison with recent research achievements in the well-established areas of parallel and distributed computing, from industry and the scientific community. PDP 2014 will provide a forum for the presentation of these and other issues through original research presentations and will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and new ideas at the highest technical level.

Third Citizen Cyberscience Summit

Topic: Grid computing and distributed computing

On the first day the scene will be set - hearing from some of the leading figures in citizen science and exploring the process of public engagement and participation, outreach of citizen science to the developing world, and the undertaking of "extreme" citizen science projects, in rain forests, the arctic tundra, or urban jungles.

On the second day experts will discuss the hardware and software that powers citizen cyberscience. There will be panel discussions with citizen scientists about participation and engagement, and a showcase of new and future citizen science projects.

On the third day the Hack Day will continue with workshops about developing hardware and software prototypes, lightning talks with demos and mock-ups, and an Open Space to work on ideas and challenges. The organizers will wrap up the day with a Hack Day Show and Tell and a Reception.

EDF - European Data Forum

Topic: e-Science

The EDF is the annual meeting-point for data practitioners from industry, research, the public-sector community initiatives, to discuss the opportunities and challenges of the emerging Data Economy in Europe.

The EDF 2014 comprises keynotes from global experts in the field, submitted presentations by participants, a panel and a 2-day exhibition. It concentrates on recent developments such as Open Data, Linked Data and Big Data and balances technical, application and socio-economic issues. The aim of the forum is to bring together all stakeholders involved in the data value chain to exchange ideas in order to strengthen the European data economy and its positioning worldwide. Discussions at EDF 2014 will also provide input to research, development, and policy activities at the European Commission (e.g., Horizon 2020) and those of the EU member states, with the aim of influencing the development of the new European data economy.

TNC 2014 - TERENA Networking Conference

TNC is the largest and most prestigious European research and education networking conference, with more than 650 participants attending this annual event. From around the world TNC brings together decision makers, managers, networking and collaboration specialists, and identity and access management experts from networking and research organisations, universities, and industry representatives.

TNC2014 is the 30th of these conferences. Its theme, "Networking with the world" will explore how the research and education networking infrastructure organisations can support "big and open science", "connecting minds", "experimentation as a service", "shaping cloud services" and issues of security and privacy, among other topics. Opportunities still exist to propose demonstrations, poster presentations and lightning talks, and for students to apply to attend free of charge as part of a sponsored contest.

EGI CF - EGI Community Forum 2014

The Forum will focus on the current and potential user communities that rely on EGI and will feature training events, demonstrations and a number of technical sessions and workshops. The discussions will help the community shape the future of EGI. Key themes will be science gateways and work flows, the services of the EGI Federated Cloud, the development of Virtual Research Environments, and the technical roadmap needed to implement an integrated pan-European data infrastructure. The conference combines the previously separate PRACE Scientific Conferences and PRACE Industrial Seminars and will bring together experts from academia and industry who will present their advancements in HPC-supported science and engineering. PRACE will make this event a tradition for the European HPC communities.

6th PRACE Industrial Seminar 2014

The 6th edition will continue the tradition of promoting the use of High-Performance Computing by European industry. Besides a selection of HPC use cases provided by PRACE and reputable industrial users, the event will also deliver summaries, updates and future plans in relation of a number of support projects facilitating the adoption of HPC by industry. For example, it will coincide with the evaluation of SHAPE, the PRACE-supported HPC adoption programme for SMEs and the conclusion of the first year of the operation of the Industrial Advisory Committee (IAC). At the event, PRACE will share the future vision for its industrial relations, which will lay the foundations of a globally competitive HPC eco-system in Europe.
